Pure Genius? More like Pure Evil
I like to think I’m pretty resonable about avoiding the generally bad for my health snacks in the vending machines at work. Part of this is the knowledge that, being on medication for high blood pressure, I really don’t need the extreme amounts of sodium most of these snacks contain. The other part is that, for me, it’s pretty easy to resist temptation if I don’t have the cash on hand to use in the vending machine. So imagine my dismay when I discovered today that whomever is in charge of the vending machines at work has added a credit card swipe.
That’s right… now instead of being a cash only establishment the vending machine takes Visa. Some might argue that this is pure genius on the part of the vending machine marketers. I say it’s a move born out of pure melevolence and evil. Now, it will be much more difficult to resist that tasty snack because I no longer need $.85 cash to get it. Nope, now I can swipe my Visa bank card and get all the tasty treats I want.
From a marketing perspective this is pure genius. As for me, I want to meet whomever came up with this idea and give them a swift kick in the gonads.
